This is a transcript of his latest pearl of wisdom:
It's pretty simple: marriage is between a man and a woman. This is a historic doctrine driven deep into the Bible, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, and it's a perfect example of what I mean by the rise of paganism. The effort to create alternatives to marriage between a man and a woman are perfectly natural pagan behaviors, but they are a fundamental violation of our civilization.
Well. It's good to know that he thinks alternatives to what I'm sure he considers to be a 'real' marriage, are perfectly natural. And I guess I'm not really insulted at all that he thinks they're pagan. Merriam-Webster defines pagan as being "a follower of a polytheistic religion", and (what I suspect is the more current definition) "one who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods : an irreligious or hedonistic person."
I'm perfectly happy to be labeled a pagan, by that second definition. Also, I hope Mr. Gingrich will stick to his guns when it comes to his apparent disrespect for and avoidance of things pagan, and refrain from celebrating Christmas next year. He has an entire 11-months to decide. Who knows, maybe by then he'll be attending services in a synagogue, you know, so he can get more of the Jewish vote.
